FLL Project: Recycling Plastic Waste

For their 2019 FLL research project, the Super Trash Bros team picked recycling plastic waste as one way to improve urban living.

Plastic waste is filling up our landfills, clogging our oceans, and cluttering the streets of our cities. What if we could take unwanted plastic and turn it into things we need, right in our own homes?

The Super Trash Bros determined that it's feasible to grind up, melt, or otherwise break down plastic to create filament for 3-D printers. Imagine owning a machine that would grind up and melt your old plastic then print a new cup, holiday decoration, or some other item you need? People could save a lot of plastic from being tossed out and save money by creating new things instead of buying them!
